Not my volvo wheels, but how not to primer and plastidip.

Post by MadMax »

A cautionary tale, gentlemen, on being certain that you let your primer dry completely prior to attempting additional paintwork.

I did not let my primer dry long enough. This is the before and after redoing of the primer.

I attempted to apply the black plastidip too soon. In my eagerness what I ended up with was a spider-cracked liquid goo that would not solidify. This is after wiping off the majority of the black goo. I then left what remained to dry overnight.

The next day after sanding with wire wheel brushes on a drill, removed all the mess and the remaining OEM powdercoat, which was in rough shape from 1997.

After the new primer coats went on and dried, ready for future paint after another night of drying.

Do not do as I have done, unless you have a couple extra days to play around with.

The metalfab/bodywork has to be on hold till I build a garage around it come spring, but im doing what else I can to it meanwhile.
