Rear Window Storage

Post by rollingpinz »

Hello

Has anyone, with a K model, figured out a clever way to store the upper portion of the rear door when driving in warm weather. I am keeping the racks and have a battery box on the passenger side wheel well. Any ideas? And I already know that if I put it there, I won't be able to fit in the seat and close the door.

I found that an RV style roof vent is the biggest bang for the buck....all you have to do is slide the windows open, and the ventalation is great(down the road) with no compromise of security. TTFN ,Mark

Hello

Where, along the roof, did you install it? Is it over the rear seats or past them? How has the seal held out the rain? How much did you spend?

If you have any space along the waistline, install 2 eye bolts to slide the support tubes into and use a bungee strap to hold the the door top secure against the side wall.

I mounted it between the rear edge of the table and the leading edge of the rear seats. I originally had an R/V/A/C mounted above,so I filled the hole with the vent. As the vent is very light,no reinforcement of the roof is neccessary, just the courage to cut out a 16" square hole in your roof!  These vents are real cheap for your basic crank-up model with alum cover(less than $20). 8) Others can be had with power vent capabilities that can both suck or blow  , but I don't know if 24v is an option. I chose cheap aluminum so if it gets "removed" it would be gentle on my wallet to replace! I have some pics some where, just gotta find 'em. If you can do any maintenence on a Pinz, this is a super easy project. Side note: My 2nd Pinz has these flip out scooper looking vents mounted a few inches above the outboard edges of the ft bumpers. They work real good also, don't know where to find 'em. I am of the thought that the scoopers and a roof vent may eliminate the need to open windows at all.....TTFN,Mark
