limiting straps

Post by grayroad »

Anybody tried the repro limiting straps? They are a lot cheaper but are they as good as the original?

Thanks. That doesn't sound good. I guess the originals may be worth the price.

The repros suck in my experience. Pay the extra, it's worth it. I broke my repros immediately and the oem ones are still good as new after two years!

I haven't had any trouble with the repro's , and have plenty of trail time on them. Perhaps shocks play a part in the equation

could be shocks or it could be another 710/712 issue. Seems most of the broken straps are on the 712's, which could be we just have more of them also.
If I remember correctly in 3 years I have broken/damaged 5 limiting straps, all factory oem. I am running rancho 9000's. Have not tried repro and will keep replacing with factory unless a good option comes along.

FWIW, I run OEM straps on my 712 and have never broken one. I have, however, broken off several lower shock/strap mounting bolts. (all rears) I did this with stock shocks, and with the NAPA shocks which Dennis recommended earlier. I switched to the Rancho shocks and have broken nothing since then. I don't know if this is reflective of the straps being stronger than the bolts, but at least the strap doesn't seem to be the weak point in the system.

Next time I had a strap break I was just going to throw these on all away around....

limiting straps

I was thinking of getting spares, these look good to carry for that purpose.
What is the stock length of limiting straps for comparison?

This is the rack I made to hold my doors. I don't use it often, most times the doors just stay home.

Stock length is appx 18 3/8 center to center on a new factory strap.

I ordered 4 custom straps from OK today. I think they could be used IN ADDITION to the stock straps to extend life of the originals, which will soon be $300 . :x :x

Mark....you read my mind.

Were you able to get the mount hole to the same size from the manufacturer or will that have to be a backyard special.

Let us know how they fit and post a Pic. Wonder if they come in desert camo?
