I never noticed how much pressure there seems to be be in my engine. I was adding a quart of oil while the engine was running. I noticed quite a bit of pressure coming out of the fill tube. It was even splattering oil back at me. I'm assuming this is not good. Does this mean I have significant blow-by?
Is putting new piston rings in something that can be done without removing the engine? How difficult a repair would this be?
How much crank case pressure??

Repair
I would like an answer to the rest of his question, if you don't mind. There is a red Pinz that doesn't run on ebay. This is the type of information that would help me decide on what I would fix or send out. Is this some type of repair that can be done somewhat easily in frame or is it easier to pull engine out. It doesn't seem to be that hard, looking at the manual. What kind of time with two guys and a cherry picker to pull engine? How about doing a ring job? Thanks. Brian

That red Pinz most likely has a bad coil. I noticed it has a civvy kit, and the most common failure is the coil. As far as blow by is concerned, it should be minimal to none. The crankcase vents through the oil filler assembly into the intake air box, so if the carbs are oily, there is blow by, usually from worn rings.
That makes sense. Don't really see oil residue in the carbs. The crankcase vents through the oil filler assembly into the intake air box, so if the carbs are oily, there is blow by, usually from worn rings.
Just for info. How difficult is a ring job? Is this a shade tree job or does it require special skill?
PS: Saw that red Pinz too. Could be a heck of a deal for someone with some time to do some trouble shooting.
