exhaust stud spec on 710k engines question

Post by bonefish635 »

Anyone know the specs of Pinzgauer exhaust studs? I assumed they were standard metric M8 thread but they don't seem to be.

Buying SPD replacements here seems tricky/ very slow, and so I was looking at sourcing equivalent parts.

Any help gratefully received, as always.

Yes they are 8mm x 1.25 thread pitch, make sure to use a hardened stud.

I found advertised stainless studs with inset hex drives for stud insertion.

Any problems going with stainless studs? They come with stainless bolts too. I notice the Pinz ones are brass. I'm guessing there's a good reason for that but I amn't technical enough to know straight off what that is.

Brass? Don't think so, touch one to a grinder, sparks its steel. 8)

It's the nuts that are brass. I was wondering what the reason was for that metal choice?

To keep from rusting/galling.
Use a std 8.8 rated stud with brass nut and seat washer. (these will not loosen when hot)
