I think it died

Post by buzzz »

I am new to the pinz world. I traded for a 1974 710m about a month ago and loving it until yesterday. It acted as if it was flooding on startup and would hit on one cylender. after finally starting it would not idle and ran very ruff backfireing at times. It has mil plugs, I removed and cleaned them they were wet with fuel and old. after installing plugs it will not start at all . help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Thanks in advance

Check for fuel, check COIL WIRE and plug wires at the plug end. You must have spark and fuel, if it has been wet, check the distributor cap and points.
Start with spark, these plug and coil wires do go bad after 30+ years.

Thanks for the reply pinzdriver. I checked solinods and they all click. Im not much of a repairman just an old bricklayer. I plan to order the wire converson and pertronix ignition from sav and see if that helps. The plugs looked pretty bad. This just started suddenly. It had been running great.

WELCOME TO THE PINZ WORLD,
GLAD YOU ARE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN
JUST GOT MINE GOING AFTER NOT TRYING FOR A COUPLE MONTHS :D BECAUSE OF EITHER NOT BEING HOME OR TOO DARN COLD. GOT ABOVE FREEZING TODAY SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY. TOOK A WHILE BUT IT FINALLY STARTED. :D I WAS SURPRISED I DID NOT HAVE TO CHARGE UP THE BATTERIES.
FYI- EARLY ON IN MY PINZ OWNERSHIP I WAS NOT GETTING A CHARGE TO BATTERY. WAS RED WIRE FROM ALTERNATOR TO CONNECTION PLUG COMMON PROBLEM. THERE ARE OLDER POSTS ABOUT IT.
