Another Carb question

Post by Oberon »

I was working on the Pinz trying to set the timing and carbs. I know there has been alot of talk about the spindles on the butterfly of the carbs needing to be re-bushed. I took the linkages off of the carbs and wiggled the spindle where the linkages attach and there was some play in both of them, not much but there was definitely some movement. Adjusting the timing doesn't seem to help my 'missing' problem. I would think that there should be no play. Should they be rebushed?

There is some play along the axis of the shaft, but there shouldn't be any up and down. To test if you're leaking air from here, spray some starting fluid on the spindle ends while the engine is running. If the idle increases, then it has sucked in the fluid and you have a leak.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a shot. I'm not sure if that is the problem. After searching the archives, most of the posts mentioned that with worn spindles, it was usually hard to get the carbs to sync and I'm not having that problem at all.
Thanks again,
Spence
